Dear Sir: -- We left Lowell fifty three years ago last May, I can remember only about eight or ten old friends there. Fifty-four years ago next Sunday night, February 22, 1866, my wife and I were married at the Dummond homestead one mile southwest of Lowell by Elder G.W. Lewis of the Baptist church. The snow at that time was about two and one half feet deep, and here today at Yates Center, they have been plowing for two weeks and are sowing oats. I will give you the prices of a few things here: Flour, $3.30 per 48 pound sack; Texas seed oats, $1.18 per bushel; Corn, $1.50 per bushel; ________________________; corn chop, $3.40 per bushel; wild hay, $15 to $18 per ton on truck; alfalfa, $22.50 per ton in stack; eggs, 40¢ per dozen; butter, 60¢ per pound; pork steak, 30 to 35¢ per pound; beef, 30 to 35¢ per pound. There are only about seven of the old residents of Lake county around here. They are all well.
