Samuel Orr Landis (1872-1925)

The following May 7, 1925 Lowell Tribune article appeared on page 1, column 1:

    FORMER LOWELL PASTOR DEAD

Word has been received here of the death of Samuel Orr Landis, a former pastor of the Christian church in Lowell. He was born July 21, 1872, and departed this life at Oklahoma City, Okla., April 24, 1925. When a young man he took up the study of medicine and later entered the ministry. He served at one time in the Medical corps of the U.S. Army.

He was united in marriage to Elizabeth McAlligotin, Evanston, Ill., December 20, 1897. Two sons were born to this union, Kenneth E., of Whiting, Indiana, and Donald H., of Lufkin, Texas.

His first ministry was at Washington, Penn., and he served as pastor of many other churches, among them being at Lowell, where he was stationed for some time. During his pastorate here he made many warm friends, who will regret to hear of his death.

He was a very successful evangelist. Many of the young men who were converted under his ministry are now ministers of the gospel.

For about two years he has been connected with the Phillips University endowment crusaders and was quite successful in this line of work.

Funeral services were held at Oklahoma City. Interment was made in the Fair Lawn cemetery at Oklahoma City.
