Hayhurst Funeral Saturday
The funeral of the late John B. Hayhurst was held on Saturday afternoon and was very largely attended by relatives and friends. Short services were held at the home in this city conducted by Rev. Little, of Alton, Ill. Following the services at the home the remains were taken to Sherburnville church where regular services were held. About thirty cars accompanied the remains to the church where regular services were held. Hundreds of Mr. Hayhurst's old friends and neighbors were at the church, and every seat in the building was occupied and many were unable to gain admission. The music was furnished by a quartette from Grant Park. Rev. Little delivered a fitting tribute to the deceased. The services at the grave were conducted by Momence Lodge A.F. and A.M., of which Mr. Hayhurst has been a member for nearly fifty years. The remains were laid to rest in the family lot near the church. Those who attended the funeral from a distance were Mr. and Mrs. Charles Buche, of Plainview, Neb.; Mrs. Irvin Lake and daughter, of Gaza, Iowa; Owen Hayhurst, of Madison, Mo.; Mrs. Everett Jones, of Holiday, Mo.; Mrs. J.H. Hayhurst and Eldon Hayhurst, of Lowell, Ind.; John Stokes and family, of Harvey, Ill; Mrs. Clara Jones, of Chicago, Silas Starkey and wife, of Hammond, Ind. -- Momence Press-Reporter.
