Cedar Lake Soldier Wins Medal

Pfc. Victor A. Oman, son of the Gus Omans of Cedar Lake, has been awarded the Good Conduct Medal. He is serving with the U.S. army engineers in the Philippines.

Pfc.Oman, overseas more than 28 months, landed in the Philippines with the 14th army corps. This corps, which is commanded by Maj. Gen. O.W. Griswold, directed all the army's fighting in the Solomons and is now in on its fourth campaign in World War II. Principal combat units of the corps for this operation are the 37th and 40th infantry divisions.

Pfc. Oman received basic training at Camp Shelby, Miss.
