Frank Seliger

The following newspaper article, hand-dated July 22, 1954, was found in a scrapbook owned by Town Historian Richard Schmal:

Near Tragedy Averted at Lake Dalecarlia

A near tragedy was averted at Lake Dalecarlia last week, when a boat with eight people aboard capsized near the Frank Seliger home. Mr. Seliger, Ed Banta and Charles Hecker, who witnessed the accident, immediately went to the rescue. Seliger reached the scene in his boat in time to reach under the water and save a small baby who was on the verge of drowning. The others, five adults and two children, were thrown inner tubes to cling to. Names of the occupants of the boat were not obtained.

Hot Weather Brings Crowd to Beach

Unusually hot weather and improvements made on the east side beach recently, were both responsible for an overflow crowd last week end. The private beach, for the use of property owners and their guests, was filled to capacity with lake visitors from Gary, Hammond, Crown Point, Lowell and Cedar Lake.
