Lucy Taylor Witter (1864-1944)

The following December 28, 1944, Lowell Tribune article was found on page 8 column 3:

FORMER CRESTON LADY DIES IN HAMMOND

Mrs. Lucy Witter, 85, died Tuesday of last week at her home in Hammond, after a long illness.

The deceased was born at Creston, Oct. 16, 1864, where she grew to womanhood. After her marriage the family moved to Hammond, where she had made her home the past 40 years. She was a member of the Obadiah Taylor Historical Society and the Methodist church.

She is survived by three sons, Roy and Ed of Hammond and Cecil of Whiting; two daughters, Mrs. Marrie Wickey of Rochester, N.Y., and Mrs. Lucy Adley of Hammond; 14 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren.

Funeral services were held last Friday at Hammond, with interment in Elmwood cemetery in that city.

Note that while the obituary says she was 85 when she died, her birth and death dates indicate that she was actually 80.
