YOUNG ADULT T-SHIRT BLEACHING

T-shirt bleaching is a DIY technique for creating custom designs by applying bleach to darker-colored t-shirts to remove the original dye and create a lighter, unique design. This process works best on cotton.

Have you ever bleached dark clothing ON PURPOSE? Come join other young adults in this creative way of customizing a t-shirt. This is particularly fun to do around Halloween because most black, cotton shirts turn orange when bleach is added, giving the best custom Halloween time shirts!

We’ll be meeting at the Lowell Public Library on THURSDAY, OCTOBER 23 at 5:30pm to bleach some t-shirts. We’ve got a variety of spooky, Halloween cutouts to use as stencils in addition to some autumn, harvest themed stencils. Shirts can also be bleached in a similar method as tie dying if you’d like to participate but don’t like any of the stencils.

Young Adults coming to participate NEED TO BRING A DARK COLORED COTTON SHIRT for bleaching. Also, please wear appropriate clothing in case of bleach splatter.

This is a free program for students in 5th-12th grades.

Registration is required for planning purposes and will open on October 3, 2025.
