Albert Byron Chipman
The following April 5, 1917, Lowell Tribune article was found on page 5, column 1:
- Albert Chipman, of Crown Point, visited relatives __________ here Sunday and Monday.
An article in the July 26, 1917, Lowell Tribune (page 8, columns 4-6) listed the men from Cedar Creek, West Creek, Eagle Creek and Hanover Townships who were drafted for the army the Friday before. As well as their names, the place each man occupied in the draft list was shown. Men under the number 2250 were the first to be called, and Albert B. Chipman of Eagle Creek Township was # 1045.
The following August 24, 1944, Lowell Tribune article was found on page 5, column 4:
- After spending two weeks here with her mother, Mrs. Emily Nelson, and sister, Mrs. F.V. Hayden, and family, Mrs. Albert Chipman went to Plymouth to visit friends before joining her husband, Capt. Albert Chipman, at Washington, D.C. Mrs. Chipman received word that her son, Lt. Albert Chipman, Jr., had been wounded in action just before she left Lowell.
This Lowell Tribune article was found in the January 25, 1945, issue (page 1, column 6):
Former Lowell Man is Veteran of Two Wars
- Among the former Lowell high school graduates filling in the form published in last week's Tribune was Maj. Albert B. Chipman, an attorney in the Judge Advocate Department, Washington, D.C., who also saw service in World War I. Mrs. Chipman, the former Emily Nelson, daughter of Mrs. F.E. Nelson, Lowell, who is also a graduate of L.H.S., in a letter to R.J. Brannock, principal, wrote:
- " I found this form in our issue of The Lowell Tribune and I am sending it in, although it may not be intended for a case such as this.
- "At the time Mr. Chipman graduated from Lowell schools, 1913, the high school was not the 'Lowell District High School,' but I thought this information might be included in your records. He was a veteran of World War I also. Perhaps your list of Lowell graduates who have been in both wars is not very extensive."
- As far as can be learned, Major Chipman is the only graduate of Lowell high who has seen service in World Wars I and II. His mother, Mrs. Byron Chipman, is a resident of Gary.
