The following article was found in the January 28, 1943, Lowell Tribune on page 2, column 1:

    Promoted to Staff Sergeant

    Alfred Snyder, son of Mr. and Mrs. Ellsworth Snyder of Shelby, was recently promoted to Staff Sergeant at Harlengen, Texas, gunnery school.

    He will receive special training at Ft. Meyers, Florida, as an instructor and will then return to the Texas field.
