The following notice was found in the local history clipping files at the Lowell Public Library (LH--Vital Statistics, vol. 1, p. 14) and is attributed to the 1896-1900 Old Settlers' Report:

Mrs. Wood, wife of Dr. James A. Wood of Lowell, born Jan. 15, 1819, living in Porter county in 1837, and soon coming to Lake county, having been blind for many years, died Feb. 20, 1897. Age 78 years. Had lived with her husband 60 years. And he was 84 last February.
