Arthur (Art) Cragen
- Will Purdy has received a letter from Art Cragen, another Lowell boy in the army, which we are permitted to publish.

- Dear friend WIll:
- I suppose you will be surprised to hear from me, but I thought I would let you know I am still on earth. I enlisted on the 27th day of January and I have traveled some since first I went to Columbus, Ohio, where I was assigned to the 9th Infantry. They were then in El Valley, Mexico. We left there the 1st of March and hiked back to the States, 390 miles, some hike. We got to El Paso, Texas, the 1st of April, stayed there until the 20th of May then came up here by rail. We expect our next move will be to France, but we should worry. I suppose some of the boys around Lowell have enlisted before this time.
- Well Will, I have gotten along pretty good so far. I was made Corporal about two weeks ago. I expect to be Sergeant in a few months. Say Will, you should see this park. There are some monuments here. Indiana has quite a few, but New York has the best one. It is on top of Look Out Mountain.
- I do not know of anything to tell you that will interest you, but have sure thought of you a good many times. Am sending you a few pictures I had taken here. When I have some good ones taken will send you some more, and wish you would send me one of yours. I would surely appreciate it if you would remember me to all the folks. Tell your mother I said hello.
- Our regiment was split in three parts and it makes the 6th, 53rd and 54th regiments. Hoping to hear from you soon.
