Arthur C. "Art" "Red" Claussen, Jr.
- Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Claussen have received word from their son Arthur, Jr., who was serving with the U.S. Navy overseas, that he has been returned to the states and is instructing in the repair of planes. Messages from Lowell friends should be addressed to Arthur C. Claussen AD3, VRI-W.A.S., Patuxent River, Maryland.

- Arthur Claussen, Jr., who has been with the U.S. Navy Air Force for the past three years, surprised his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Claussen, with an unexpected visit Saturday evening, Art will be at home until tomorrow (Friday). After his return to base he will fly to Korea. This evening, when the Claussen family hold a reunion, it will be the first time all the family have been together since 1945.

- The Art Claussen family gathered last Thursday evening for a farewell dinner-party. The occasion honored the Claussen's son, Arthur Jr., member of the Navy Air Force. Arthur left Friday evening for Patuxent River, Maryland. Tuesday morning he flew with an armada of 30 planes to Great Lakes, then on to San Diego for direct orders before continuing the flight to Korea.

- ART CLAUSSEN ESTABLISHES BRILLIANT PITCHING RECORD
- Arthur Claussen, Jr., AD3, now with the Naval Air Force somewhere in Korea, established a brilliant record as a softball pitcher this past season while stationed at Maryland. Art, who hurled for the UR-1 (mechanics division), in a tourney for the Naval Inta-Mural title, hurled a no-hitter and a 2-hit game but lost in the finals 2-0 while giving up only 4 hits. Throughout the season he was rated as an outstanding pitcher.

The following November 1, 1951, Lowell Tribune article was found on page 1, column 2:
- Since Arthur Claussen, Jr., A/D3. returned to his Navy base at Patuxent River, Md., on October 11th, following a 15-day leave spent with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Claussen, who reside south of Lowell, a new address has been forthcoming but no message has been received.
The following July 24, 1952, Lowell Tribune article was found on page 2, columns 1-2:
Arthur "Red" Claussen Hurls 5th No-Hitter for Navy
Arthur "Red" Claussen, son of the Arthur Claussens, Sr., who reside on the Joe Martin road, has made quite a name for himself as a softball pitcher since joining the Navy four years ago. He recently hurled his fifth no-hitter, this time against the Naval Photographic Center, turning in a perfect performance to win 17 - 0."Red," who hurls for Patuxent, is one of the winningest pitchers in Navy leagues and seldom allows an opponent over 4 hits while several of his games this season have been one and two hitters. A catcher before going to the Navy, Red has developed rapidly as a pitcher despite the fact he is unusually small for this position, but the wiry redhead, a tireless hurler, makes up in speed and deception what he lacks in size.

News of interest to area friends concerns the marriage of AB/3 Arthur Claussen, Jr., son of Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Claussen of Cedar Creek.In a pretty ceremony performed at the First Methodist church in Cumberland, Maryland, on Sunday, October 19, at four o'clock in the afternoon, Arthur claimed Miss Alberta Alderton, of that city, as his bride. Arthur has served five years of a ten year enlistment with the Navy Air Force as a mechanic in the Airbourne division. The couple will enjoy a belated honeymoon in Lowell next June when Arthur is granted an extended leave.
