Promoted to Fireman 2/c
Augustine Nagel, who enlisted in the Navy over a year ago, has received another promotion and is now listed as a fireman second class. Gus is stationed at the naval station at Sitka, Alaska.This Lowell Tribune article was found in the March 2, 1944, issue (page 2, column 1):
- The Joe Nagels have received word from their son, Augustine, a member of Uncle Sam's navy, who is stationed at Sitka, Alaska, that he has been given a promotion and that MM 2/c should be written after his name.

Home for 30 Days
Augustine Nagel, M.O., who has been stationed at the naval base at Sitka, Alaska, the past two years, arrived home last Saturday on a 30 day leave, which he will spend with his parents, the Joe Nagels. He will report to his base at Brenerton, Wash., at the expiration of his leave. Gus says the north country is O.K. but he will take good old Indiana any time.The following June 8, 1944, Lowell Tribune article was found on page 2, column 4:
LOCAL YOUNG COUPLE MARRIED LAST THURSDAY
At a high Mass wedding at St. Edward's church, Miss Lillian Hopfauf of Lowell, daughter of Mrs. Barbara Hopfauf, South Dakota, became the bride of Augustine Nagel, MM 2/c, son of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Nagel, Lowell, last Thursday morning at 9 o'clock, with about thirty guests present for the ceremony.The bride wore a white lace and net dress and carried white roses. Mrs. George Mitsch, sister of the groom, who acted as a bridesmaid, wore a pink formal and carried pink roses. George Mitsch was best man.
Following the ceremony, relatives and friends attended the wedding breakfast given at Teibel's.
The groom, who has been stationed in Alaska for the past two years, is home on a 30-day leave. He will report to the Bremerton Navy Yard at Bremerton, Wash., in the near future.

Returns to Duty
Augustine Nagel, M.O., of the U.S. navy, has returned to duty at Bremerton, Washington, after a 30-day furlough at his home here. His wife, the former Lillian Hopfauf, will continue to work in Chicago. Transferred to Pearl Harbor
