Austin W. "Red" Cunningham

The following article was found in the Jan. 14, 1943, Lowell Tribune on page 4, column 1:
    Lieut. Ausitn Cunningham left yesterday for Camp Mitchell, N.Y., where he is stationed in the air corps, after spending a ten-day furlough with home folks. "Red" has won his wings and is now a full-fledged pilot.
This engagement announcement was found in the April 15, 1943, Lowell Tribune on page 1, column 6:

    Miss Ruth Schutz, will become the bride of Lieut.Austin Cunningham, early in May. The bride-to-be is a graduate of Lowell high school and is a member of Lambda chapter of Pi Epsilon Kappa sorority. She is a clerk in the Lowell postoffice.

    Lieut. Cunningham, a Lowell boy and also a graduate of Lowell high school, is stationed with the air corps at Grenier Field, Manchester, New Hampshire.

This February 10, 1944, Lowell Tribune article was found on page 2, column 1:
    Lt. Austin Cunningham, air force pilot, stationed in New Hampshire, arrived home Saturday for a short visit with his wife and other relatives and friends.
The following June 22, 1944, Lowell Tribune article was found on page 5, column 4:
    Born to Lt. and Mrs. Austin Cunningham, Friday, June 16, a son, at Wilmington, N.C. Mrs. Cunningham is the former Ruth Schutz. Her mother, Mrs. George Schutz is assisting in her care.
This May 17, 1945, Lowell Tribune article was found on page 5, column 1:
    After spending the past 15 days here with his wife and baby at the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. George Schutz, Lt. Austin (Red) Cunningham left on Monday to return to duty in South Carolina.
This July 12, 1945, Lowell Tribune article was found on page 5, column 6:
    Miss Irene Bydalek is substituting at the postoffice this week while Mrs. Austin Cunningham is taking a few days off to be with her husband, who is home on furlough.
The following article from the Post Tribune (Aug. 28, 1985) can be found in the Local History Files at Lowell Public Library (LH--Vital Statistics, vol. 1, page 41):
    CUNNINGHAM, AUSTIN W. (RED) -- Age 66, of Lowell, passed away Tuesday, August 27, 1985. Survived by 1 son, Larry (Phyllis) of Lowell; 2 grandchildren; 2 sisters, Selma Labs of Valparaiso and Dorothy Minerva Whitton of Lucerne, Calif. Funeral services will be conducted from St. Edward's Catholic Church in Lowell at 10 a.m. Thursday, August 29th, Msgr. Timothy Doody officiating. Burial in St. Edward's Catholic Cemetery. Friends may call from 2-5 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. Wednesday at the Sheets-Love Funeral Home, 604 East Commercial Ave., Lowell. Rosary services 7 p.m. Wednesday at the chapel. Mr. Cunningham was a retired insurance adjuster, a World War II Veteran, member of American Legion Post 101 of Lowell and of the 40 and 8 of the Legion. Memorials are requested to the American Cancer Society.
