Betsey Rockwood Abbot Wason (1818-1898)

- Entered into rest, Dec. 15, 1898, Mrs. Hiram Wason, aged eighty years -- following her husband in a little less than six months.
Betsey R. Abbot was born in Wilton, N.H., in August 1818, of English parentage, her ancestors coming from England soon after the Mayflower. She was educated in Wilton and at New Ipswich Academy, N.H., and taught for a number of years in different towns of her native state.
She was married to Rev. Hiram Wason in October, 1844, and came with him to Vevay, Ind., at that time the far west. During several years of their stay at Vevay she added to her other duties that of teaching, and greatly endeared herself especially to the young people.
In 1857 they removed to West Creek, and again endured the privations of pioneer life. Mrs. Wason was well fitted by her natural ability and education for a minister's wife -- given to hospitality, social, a sincere friend and a helper in every good work -- she was universally respected and loved.
The heart of her husband safely trusted in her.
"Her children arise up and call her blessed."
Of her it may truly be said: "Blessed are the dead which die in the Lord, that they may rest from their labors and their words do follow them."
