The following August 22, 1968, Lowell Tribune article was fround on page 7, columns 2-3:

    Capt. Carl L. Nelson Receives Army Medal Of Commendation

    Captain Carl L. Nelson, Jr., received the army commendation medal on July 23rd and on July 26th received his discharge from the Army. He immediately flew to Oxford, England, where he entered Oxford University on a fellowship endowed by the University. He joined his wife Julie and three children at Kidlington, England, were they were awaiting him. Captain Nelson will be spending two and one-half days a week in the Nuffield Orthopedic Clinic at Oxford. The Nelsons will be in England for one year.

    Carl attended the Lake Prairie School in West Creek Twp., and is a 1952 graduate of Lowell High School.

    He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Carl Nelson, Sr., and his wife Julie is the former Julie Morrow, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Neal Morrow of Eagle Creek Township.

Nelson, Jr., 05241483, MEDICAL CORPS for Meritorious Service beyond the call of duty at Kenner Army Medical Center, Fort Lee, Virginia, from September 1966 to July 1968, given under my hand in the City of Washington, this 23rd day of July, 1968, signed Victor J. MacLaughlin, Major General, USA, and Stanly R. Resor, Secretary of the Army.
