In a May 25, 1944, Lowell Tribune article (page 1, column 2), Carroll S. Clark of Lowell was listed as an Army volunteer and a father.
The following information was found in the July 6, 1944, Lowell Tribune, page 5, column 5:
- Mrs. Carol Clark and Miss Virginia Clark left Friday for Joplin, Mo., where they will visit Pvt. Carol Clark, who is stationed at Camp Crowder.
This December 14, 1944, Lowell Tribune article was found on page 2, column 1:
Returns to Camp
After spending 15 days here with his wife and children and his parents, the Thorne Clarks, Pvt. Carroll Clark has returned to camp.The following article from the Lowell Tribune,Oct. 5, 1950, can be found in the Local History Files at Lowell Public Library (LH--Vital Statistics, vol. 3, page 67):
- Carroll Sisson Clark, who was lovingly called Bud by his family and friends, was born the son of Thorne and Grace Clark, in Trempeleau, Wisconsin, June 23, 1920, and died at the Chicago Presbyterian hospital September 28th, 1950, at the age of 30 years, 3 months and five days.
- Bud grew to manhood in the vicinity of Lowell and was educated in the local schools where he was an outstanding athlete.
- At the age of 13 he was baptized into the Church of Christ and has remained true to the Christian principles under which he was reared.
- He was united in marriage to Mary Ann Hayden on December 22, 1939, and to this union two daughters were born: Marilyn Joyce, 10, and Carol Ann, 8.
- An employee of the Illinois Bell Telephone Co. for the past 10 years, his greatest pride and satisfaction came from his association with his fellow workers.
- He served 23 months in the Army Signal Corp. in the European Theatre during World War II.
- Bud was a devoted husband and father and a loving son and brother. He endeavored to be successful in whatever he attempted.
- Flying was his favorite interest and he had hoped to contribute this service to his work.
- Besides his wife and two daughters, he leaves his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Thorne Clark, five sisters: Mrs. Marian Wilson, Mrs. Verna Branham, Mrs. Nellie Jayne Gerner, Virginia and Margaret; two brothers, Dale and Millard; his grandmother, Mrs. Bird Sisson and many relatives and friends.
- Funeral services were held at the Sheets Funeral Home Sunday at two o'clock with Rev. L.E. Holt, pastor of the Church of Christ, officiating. Interment was in the Lowell cemetery.
The following article from an unknown source was dated Sept. 28, 1950, and was found in the Local History Files at the Lowell Public Library (LH--Vital Statistics, vol. 3, page 40):
- Carroll Clark, 30, passed away this morning (Thursday) at the Presbyterian hospital in Chicago where he had been hospitalized since Septenber 3. Ill since July, 1949, with the dread disease, lukemia, he was much improved through the summer after treatment with ATCH, and had returned to work.
- Carroll served three years with the Army signal corps in the European war theater. He is survived by his wife, Mary Ann, daughters, Marilyn Joyce, 10, Carol Ann, 8, his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Thorne Clark and many relatives, brothers, sisters and a host of friends.
- Friends may call at the Sheets Funeral Home. Services will be held Sunday afternoon.
