Cecil G. Collins (1889-1953)

A copy of the following newspaper article, hand-dated June 1953, was found in a scrapbook owned by Town Historian Richard Schmal:

C.U. RAGON AND MRS. E.A. SURPRISE RECEIVE WORD OF NEPHEW'S DEATH

Lowell relatives received word Tuesday of the death of Cecil G. Collins, 66, of Little Rock, Ark. Death occurred Monday night following an illness of two years duration.

Cecil was the son of Minnie Ragon and the late Oliver Collins, both of Lowell. (Minnie's father was H.H. Ragon, early Lowell civic leader, and Oliver's father, Dan Collins, was a pioneer merchant of Lowell).

Prior to his illness, Cecil held a responsible position with the Arkansas state highway department. Funeral services are being held in Little Rock today. Interment will also be at that city where they have resided for many years.

Surviving with his mother are two sisters, Mrs. Mable Bryan and Mrs. Myra Henry; one niece; one uncle, C.U. Ragon of Lowell; two aunts, Mrs. E.A. Surprise of Lowell and Mrs. Myrtle Buckley of South Bend, besides other relatives of Southern Lake County.
