Commissioned An Ensign
Charles F. Roberts, son of Atty. and Mrs. V.K. Roberts, who has been stationed at Great Lakes naval training station for some time, has been commissioned an Ensign and is now at Plattsburg, N.Y., where he is attending school.This April 12, 1945, Lowell Tribune article was found on page 6, column 1:
GRACE LOVE AND ENSIGN CHARLES F. ROBERTS WED
- Miss Grace Love, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Merritt Love and ensign Charles F. Roberts, son of Attorney and Mrs. Victor K. Roberts were married Friday afternoon, April 6, at 2:15 in the First Methodist church of Lowell, Rev. Henry M. Braun, pastor, officiating.
- The bride was attended by her sister, Mrs. Paul Phebus and the groom by his brother, Victor John Roberts.
- The bride, who was given in marriage by her father, was attractively attired in a frock of aqua blue with brown accessories and wore a corsage of red rosebuds.
- Following the ceremony, a reception was held at Mickelberry's Log Cabin.
This April 19, 1945, Lowell Tribune article was found on page 5, column 4:
- Mrs. Charles Roberts left Tuesday for Norfolk, Va., where she goes to join her husband, Ensign Charles Roberts, who is stationed there.
This July 5, 1945, Lowell Tribune article was found on page 5, column 4:
- Mrs. Charles Roberts has returned to Norfolk, Va., to join her husband, who will return there this week after being at sea the past three weeks. She had been visiting her parents, the Merritt Loves, and her husband's parents, Mr. and Mrs. V.K. Roberts.
Military news in the August 9, 1945, issue of the Lowell Tribune (page 2, column 1) lists Ensign Charles Roberts as home on furlough from Norfolk, Va.
Another article was found (page 7, column 3) in the same issue of the paper:
- Ensign and Mrs. Chrales Roberts of Norfolk, Va., are here visiting their parents, Attorney and Mrs. V.K. Roberts and Mr. and Mrs. Merritt Love.
This Lowell Tribune article was found in the February 21, 1946, issue (page 2, column 2):
- Charles Roberts, Ph. Mate 1/c, arrived home last Saturday, having been discharged after serving many months in the navy.
