The following newspaper article, hand-identified as being from the May 24, 1956, Tribune, was found in a scrapbook owned by Town Historian Richard Schmal:

    C.J. DAUGHERTY, 86, EX-INDIANA OFFICIAL, DIES

    Charles J. Daughtery, 86, of 494 South Court, Crown Point, Ind., retired insurance and real estate man who had held several public offices in Lake county, died yesterday in his home. He was Lake county sheriff from 1904 to 1908 and subsequently was Crown Point postmaster. From 1945 to 1955 he was a member of the Lake county jury commission.

    Surviving are his widow, Katherine; a son, Charles E., president of the Gary board of education; and two daughters, Katherine and Mrs. Hester Courtwright. Services will be held at 2 p.m. tomorrow in the chapel at 109 North East St., Crown Point.
