Charles Johnson (1872-1921)
- This community was shocked about 4:30 Tuesday afternoon when it was learned that Howard Slocomb had found Charles Johnson dead near his barn. Mr. Johnson had been working for Mr. Slocomb and Tuesday afternoon Mr. Slocomb went to get his daughter and told Mr. Johnson that he had done enough for that day, and to put the team in the barn. When Mr. Slocomb returned about 4:30 he saw the team still out near the barn and as they were not standing quietly, he went to find out what the trouble was. He found Mr. Johnson lying on his face near the wagon, dead. He had only passed away a short time before as the body was still warm.
Mr. Johnson has not been in the best of health for some time, but he was not thought serious. Death was due to heart failure. For several years he was a section foreman on the Monon railroad. He was a man who enjoyed the friendships of a large number of people and they will be shocked to hear of his death. He leaves his wife and three children to mourn him.
Funeral services will be held today (Thursday) at 2 p.m. at the Christian church.

- Charles Johnson was born at Xenia, Ohio, April 12, 1872, and passed away February 8, 1921. Mr. Johnson came to Lake Co. about twenty years ago. He was united in marriage to Mrs. Laura Hayden, of Lowell, December 6, 1905. To this union were born three children, Velma, Kenneth Charles and Herbert Calhoun. He united with the Church of Christ during the pastorate of Rev. S.O. Landis. Those left to mourn his departure are the wife, three children and two step-sons. Funeral services were held Friday at 2 p.m. in the Christian church, Rev. Harry Hamilton officiating. Undertaker Weaver had charge of the burial service, interment in the Lowell cemetery.
