The first death from whooping cough to be recorded in Lake County in many years occurred Sunday when Charles Robinson, age 7, succumbed in his Cedar Lake residence.

The Cedar Lake boy, according to Dr. William Weis, Lake County health commissioner, is the first whooping cough victim in the county in 20 years. The boy died in a violent coughing attack.

Survivors include his parents, Mrs. and Mrs. Harry Robinson; brothers, Harry and Clifford; grandparents, Mrs. and Mrs. Milton Robinson and Mr. and Mrs. William Robinson of Gary; and great grandfather Chris Claussen of Hebron.

The body was taken to Geisen's funeral home in Crown Point where funeral services were held at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday. Rev. Harold Brown of East Gary officiated, with burial in the Hebron cemetery.
