Pfc. Doolittle Claims Miss Christine Fanning as Bride
Baskets of pink and white gladioli banked the white fireplace in the spacious home of the Wade Doolittles and pale pink tapers in crystal candelabra decorated the mantel shedding a soft glow as organ recordings of wedding selections, including "I Love Your Truly," "O, Promise Me" and "The Lord's Prayer," set the scene for the wedding ceremony in which John Robert Doolittle, son of Mr. and Mrs. Wade Doolittle, claimed as his bride, Miss Christine Fanning, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. James Fanning of 5611 Hohman Avenue, Hammond, on Saturday evening, January 26th. Rev. Paul A. Reisen solemnized the service in which the couple exchanged vows and rings.Pink accessories and a corsage of pink camellias made attractive color contrast for the navy wool gabardine suit chosen by Miss Fanning for her wedding costume. Her aunt, Miss Virginia Lowhorn, was maid of honor, her ensemble featuring a rose beige suit with matching accessories and white carnation corsage.
Pat Sharkey served the bridegroom as best man.
For her daughter's wedding, Mrs. Fanning was attired in a navy silk print and wore a corsage of white carnations. Mrs. Doolittle was attractive in a navy pin check suit complemented by a corsage of red carnations.
About 50 guests, members of the immediate families and close friends, were present for the wedding and reception in the Doolittle home.
A salmon-pink silk damask cloth adorned the refreshment table which was centered by a three-tier cake artfully decorated with salmon-pink roses and flanked on either side by tall white tapers in crystal candelabra.
The bride and groom are alumni of Lowell high school, graduating with the class of '51. The bride will continue her work at the Hammond office of the Illinois Bell Telephone Co., while the groom serves in the Air Force, stationed at Chanute Field, Rantoul, Ill.
The couple will honeymoon in March when Pfc. Doolittle enjoys a leave from service.
