FINAL RITES HELD SUNDAY FOR LOWELL PIONEER
Mrs. Clara Pixley, prominent life-long citizen of Lowell, succumbed to a long illness last Thursday at her home on West Commercial Avenue.Clara Leona Pixley was born on November 30th, 1863, on a farm approximately a mile east of the Buncome school house just south of Lowell. She died March 6, 1952, at the age of 83 years, 3 months and 6 days, having spent her entire life in this community. Mrs. Pixley was the eldest daughter and one of six children of Henry W. Hoshaw and Eliza Jane Hoshaw, who came to Lowell as a young farm couple from Shelby County, Ohio, just prior to the Civil War. Mrs. Pixley was married November 19, 1890, to Edwin James Pixley. Her husband and her three brothers, Allen Hoshaw, a farmer of Crown Point; Edwin Hoshaw, a jeweler of Hebron; and Bert, a carpenter of Lowell, all preceded Mrs. Pixley in death. Her two sisters, Mrs. Ida Hayhurst, of Gary, and Mrs. Maud Belshaw, of Hammond, survive.
As a young woman, Mrs. Pixley was a teacher in the schools of southern Lake County, and during all of her long and useful life she was a fine friend and great inspiration to the young people of the Lowell community. She was a member of the Methodist church, active in the Red Cross here, and a past president of the Lowell Woman's club.

Memorial services were held at the Sheets funeral chapel at two o'clock, Sunday afternoon, March 9, with Rev. Paul A. Reisen, officiating. Interment was in the Lowell cemetery.
