Claude Jackson Trump (1881-1954)
- Born, to the wife of Claude Trump, Tuesday December 20, 1904, a fine baby boy.
A copy of the following newspaper article, hand-identified as being from the April 29, 1954, Times, was found in a scrapbook owned by Town Historian Richard Schmal:
- LOWELL -- Claude J. Trump, 72, of Lowell died at 5:15 p.m. Thursday in Mercy Hospital in Gary.
He was a member of the Church of Christ of Lowell, the Lowell Lions Club and the Modern Woodmen of America.
Surviving are his wife, Mae; two sons, Harold and Robert; two brothers, Lyle of Kansas City and Ira of California*; five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday at the Church of Christ of Lowell, the Rev. Loren Hold* officiating.
Burial will be in Lowell Cemetery.

Claude Trump, Lowell Nighwatchman, Dies
Claude J. Trump, 72, Lowell night patrolman died at Gary Mercy hospital last Thursday afternoon. He had been ill only a few days. His death is a serious loss to the community for in his role as watchman, Claude was respected by youngsters and oldsters. Reliable and conscientious, he had the good will of Lowell's business people, and because of his understanding as well as solicitousness of the children's welfare, he gained their cooperation.Mr. Trump was a charter member of the Lowell Lions club; an active member of the Modern Woodman lodge, as long as it functioned in Lowell, and a long time member of the Lowell Church of Christ.
Claude Jackson Trump was born in West Creek Township June 29, 1881, the son of Peter F. and Laura (Miller) Trump. On Easter Sunday, April 5, 1903, he married Phoebe Mae Ferguson, also of West Creek. They celebrated their golden wedding anniversary at an open house in 1953.
Mr. Trump has been a lifelong resident of the Lowell community with the exception of 10 years when, with his parents, he lived in Kansas.
Claude farmed with his father after his marriage, later he clerked in Lowell stores and worked in Hammond five years prior to opening Trumps Restaurant which he and his wife operated successfully for 22 years. In 1950 Claude assumed the responsibility of night watchman.
Surviving with his wife are two sons, Harold F. of Hammond, and Robert C. of Frankfort, Ill., five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren, also two brothers, Ira Trump of Phoenix, Ariz., and Lyle Trump of Kansas City, Mo., besides a host of friends and other relatives.
Memorial services were held Sunday, May 2, at 2 p.m. in the Church of Christ with Pastor Loren E. Holt officiating. He was interred in the Lowell cemetery and pallbearers were members of the Town Board, Alvah Pletcher, Thomas Smith, and Milton Spry, Town Marshall Harry Brown and area State Troopers Michael Rasheta and Ed Moody.
