David Cleaver (1844-1914)

The following unidentified newspaper article was in a collection owned by Lowell Town Historian Richard Schmal:
    David Cleaver was born in Sherburnville, Kankakee Co., Ill., May 17, 1844, and died March 4, 1914, at his home near California Junction, Iowa.

    He was married Dec. 29th, 1864, to Eliza Hayhurst, at Sherburnville, Ill. He leaves to mourn his death a wife, one daughter and four sons, all of whom reside here; also one sister and three brothers who reside at Lowell, Ind., besides several grand children and great grandchildren.

    He served 3 years in the Civil War in Company K, 12th Illinois Infantry. He has lived in Iowa for the last 35 years.

    The Rev. Hosteteler, of Cal. Jct., preached the funeral services in the Presbyterian church at Cal. Jct., and he was buried in Missouri Valley cemetery.

    He also leaves a host of friends to mourn his death.
