David L. "Dave" Runyon
- Another of Shelby's young men is serving in the armed forces. David Runyon, son of Mr. and Mrs. Karl Runyon, enlisted last week in the army air force and will receive his basic training at a Texas air base.
The following November 15, 1951, Lowell Tribune article was found on page 1, column 3:
- Pvt. David Runyon, 20, son of Mr. and Mrs. Karl Runyon, of Shelby, is completing his AF basic airmen indoctrination course at Lackland Air Force Base, the "Gateway to the Air Force."
Lackland, situated near San Antonio, is the world's largest air force base, site of Air Force basic training, for men and women, headquarters of the Human Resource Research Center, and home of AF's Officer Candidate School.
His basic training is preparing him for entrance into Air Force technical training and for assignment in specialized work. The course includes a scientific evaluation of his aptitude and inclination for follwing a particular vocation and career.
A December 27, 1951, Lowell Tribune article (page 2, column 1) listed David Runyon as one of many servicemen from the Lowell vicinity arriving home for the holidays.
The following July 3, 1952, Lowell Tribune article was found on page 5, column 6:
- A-2c David L. Runyon, who was graduated June 12 from Sheppard Air Force Base, Texas, was one of the 5 of the class of 65 to receive his corporal stripe.
He is now stationed at Chanute Air Force Base, Rantoul, Ill. Address A-2c David L. Runyon, 16388687, 3347th Student Sqdn. Box 5417, Chanute AFB, Illinois.
This October 2, 1952, Lowell Tribune article was found on page 2, column 3:
- A change of address has been received from Dave Runyon which we pass on to his many friends. Address: A 2/c David L. Runyon, 39th Bomber Sqdn., Box 537, Walker AFB, New Mexico.
