The following unidentified newspaper article, hand-dated Feb. 19, 1955, was found in a scrapbook owned by Town Historian Richard Schmal:

    DAVID STRAND, 77, DIES AT SHELBY HOME

    David Strand, 77, passed away last Thursday night at his home near Shelby. He had been ill for some time.

    Born in Sweden, February 22, 1877, Mr. Strand had been a farmer in the Shelby community for many years.

    The Rev. J.K. Woerner of Hammond officiated at memorial services held Monday at 2 p.m. in the Sheets Funeral Home. Interment, made in the Lowell cemetery, was in charge of K.A. Sheets.

    Survivors include his widow, Ragna; a daughter, Mrs. Ruth Johnson, Morton Grove, Ill.; two sons, Harold of Chicago, and Norman of Lowell; three sisters, Miss Emma Strand, Seattle, Washington, Mrs. Signe Johnson, and Mrs. Olivia Gustafson, Chicago; one brother, Joseph, of Sweden, and five grandchildren.
