The following unidentified newspaper article was found in a scrapbook owned by Town Historian Richard Schmal:

    Mrs. W. Ray Bailey, Former West Creek Teacher, Succumbs

    Mrs. Ray (Edith Ann Atkinson) Bailey was born in Orange County, Indiana, near Paoli, on December 7, 1890. She spent her childhood and youth in this community, graduating from Paoli high school in 1908. After attendance at Indiana university she taught school in Paoli township and at French Lick. She continued her education at the University of Wisconsin in Madison. Her teaching career was resumed in Lake county, Indiana, with teaching responsibilities fulfilled at Schneider and Oakland grade schools.

    She was united in marriage to W. Ray Bailey on March 30, 1915. She has been a resident of the West Creek community through the remaining years of her life.

    They were the parents of four children, one of whom, Forrest E. preceded her in death in 1941. Her father and one sister also passed away before her.

    Mrs. Bailey died Saturday, April 16, at her home southwest of Lowell, at the age of 64 year and 4 months.

    Surviving are her husband; three children, Francis of Chicago, John who lives on the home farm, and Louise Cutter of Dillsboro, Ind.; two grandchildren, Marion Lee and Lindy Lou Bailey of near Lowell; her aged mother, Mrs. Worth Atkinson of Paoli; four sisters, Mrs. Van Sanders of Henniker, New Hampshire, Miss Lela Atkinson, of Paoli, Mrs. Alice Bailey of Lowell, and Mrs. Lettie Jackson of Paoli; one brother , Dayton Atkinson, of Chicago, Ill.; as well as many other relatives and a host of friends.
