Edna E. (or L.) Arvin
- Cap Lejeune, N.C., March 31 -- Marine Private Edna L. Arvin, daugher of Mr. and Mrs. Horace G. Arvin of Lowell, has completed Marine Corps Women's Reserve recruit training here. Her first assignment will be at the Marine Corps Air Station, Cherry Point, N.C., as a clerk.
- During "boot" camp, Pvt. Arvin studied military courtesy, Marine Corps history, close order drills, chemical warfare, map reading and related subjects.
This Lowell Tribune article was found in the February 22, 1945, issue (page 4, column 1):
- Cherry Point, N.C., Feb. 15 -- Twenty-one Hoosier Marines, representing every section of Indiana, recently received promotions at the Marine Corps air station here. Six of the marines are women, serving in the Marine Corps Women's Reserve at this largest air station in the Marine Corps.
- One of the women promoted was Edna E. Arvin, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Horace G. Arvin of Lowell, who advanced from Private First Class to Corporal.
