A copy of the following unidentified newspaper article was found in a scrapbook owned by Town Historian Richard Schmal:

Funeral Friday for Ed Sanders, 85, Former Lowell Businessman

Edwin Sanders, 85, of Gary, a former teacher and Lowell businessman, passed away Tuesday, December 6.

For 40 years Ed operated a plumbing and heating shop at 409 East Commercial Ave., in the building now owned by Frank Johnston. He moved to Gary about 20 years ago, where he had since made his home. Prior to entering business in Lowell he taught in local country schools.

Ed was born in Lowell on September 1, 1870. The son of the late Charles and Abigail Sanders, he was the last survivor of his immediate family.

He was a member of the Lowell Church of Christ and once was active in civic affairs.

He is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Ruth Metcalf of Gary, five grandchildren and seven great grandchildren, besides other relatives and friends.

Memorial services will be at one o'clock Friday, Dec. 9 in the Sheets Funeral Home with Rev. E.L. Worley officiating. He will be laid to rest beside his wife in the Sanders cemetery.
