Mrs. Effie Tilton, 85, passed away at the Gary Mercy hospital Wednesday, July 11, where she had been confined for the past week. Always active and alert, Mrs. Tilton suffered only a brief illness. She was born April 9, 1866, at Orchard Grove, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Jerry Kenney, who owned a store and post office at Kenney's Corners, 4 miles east of Lowell on Road 2. After graduating from Orchard Grove school, she attended high school in Crown Point and in 1885 was united in marriage to Frank Tilton.
With quiet dignity, Mrs. Tilton rendered competent service to the community where she spent her entire 85 years. Often she fondly recalled the days when she was first to bathe all the new-born babies in the neighborhood.

Her husband preceded her in death about 10 years ago.

Paul Reisen will officiate at the 2 p.m. (DST) rites on Friday, July 13th and she will be laid to rest beside her husband in the Orchard Grove cemetery with burial in charge of K.A. Sheets.
