Eliza A. Whittenbeck Keep Michael (1830-1911)
(Mrs. Alvin Keep; Mrs. John J. Michael)
- Eliza A. (Whittenbeck) Michael was born in La Porte County, Ind., July 30, 1830, the early years of her girlhood being spent in and near Westville.
In 1848 she was united in marriage to Alvin W. Keep. Two children were born to this union, both dying in early childhood. During the four years of their married life they resided in Oshkosh, Wisconsin. After the death of Mr. Keep, which occurred in 1852, she returned to Indiana, and in 1854, was united in marriage to John J. Michael. Mr. and Mrs. Michael lived for many years on their farm in West Creek Township and were among the early pioneers of that region. In 1880 they moved to Coldwater, Mich., where they lived for thirteen years. While residents of that city they were prominent in church and social circles, both being members of the Baptist church. They returned to Lowell in 1893 where the remaining years of their life were spent, Mr. Michaels's death occurring in November, 1896.
Mrs. Michael's last illness was the result of a fall, her thigh being severely injured. Although her suffering was great she endured it with much patience and fortitude, and just six weeks from the time of her injury she passed peacefully away.
