Ella D. Ross Taylor (1857-1925)

- Ella D. Ross, daughter of Phillip Connor Ross and Nancy T. Ross, was born in Indianapolis, Indiana, January 15, 1857, and departed this life at the home of her son in Crown Point, Ind., March 8, 1925, aged 68 years, 1 month and 21 days.
Her father died when she was eight years of age. She took advantage of the school facilities offered educational opportunities afforded at the village of Manchester, Ind., and later became a teacher in the village school.
In 1876, she with her mother and her sister Emma, came to Lake county, with her stepfather, Charles Nehemiah, to make their home, settling at Creston.
On February 27, 1879, she was married to George W. Taylor of Creston. To this union were born a son, Arthur C. and a daughter, Edna. Edna preceded her mother to the promised land two years ago this month.
Her husband passed away eleven years ago.
In early life, Mrs. Taylor confessed Jesus Christ as her savior and joined the Manchester M.E. church. At the time of her death, she was a member of the Creston M.E. church. When her health permitted, Mrs. Taylor always took a great interest in church work. She served as a steward of the Creston church for many years.
Mrs. Taylor was a woman who possessed strong convictions on right and wrong and was fearless in expressing them.
She leaves to mourn her passing, one son, Arthur, six grand children, Meredith and Elizabeth Taylor, Marion Jack Benson, George Gilbert, and Phillip Connor Ross; one brother Rev. Henry C. Ross, of Charlestown, West Va., and one sister, Mrs. Lida S. Walker of Madison, Wisconsin, three half brothers, Jasper Ross of Manchester, Indiana, George and Walter Nehemiah of Terre Haute, Indiana, and one half sister, Mrs. Cecelia Kelley of Indianapolis.
The funeral services were held at 2 p.m., Tuesday, March 10, 1925, in the First Methodist church at Crown Point, Indiana, in charge of Rev. Geo. B. Jones. The music was furnished by Mrs. Arthur Krenz and Miss Ruth Bradford, accompanied by Mrs. J.E. Brown. The pall bearers were O.G. Vinnedge, Cecil Witter, Harry Holmes, Emil Vallee, Arthur Miller and Clarence Fuller. The body was laid to rest in the cemetery at Creston.
