Elmer J. Haberlin (1912-1990)
This January 6, 1944, Lowell Tribune article was found on page 5, column 4:
- Mrs. Charles Haberlin, who spent the past six weeks in California with her son, Pvt. Elmer Haberlin, and wife, returned home last week-end, accompanied by her sister, Lillian Erwin of Bremer, Nebr., who will assist Mrs. Haberlin in caring for their mother, Mrs. Emma Schilling, who is recovering from a fractured hip.
This February 24, 1944, Lowell Tribune article was found on page 2, column 1:
- Elmer Haberlin, MM 2/c, accompanied by his wife, arrived home on furlough from Camp Rousseau, Port Huenene, Calif., where he has been stationed for several weeks.
This November 8, 1945, Lowell Tribune article was found on page 2, column 1:
- Elmer Haberlin, M.O.M. 2/c, arrived home from the west coast last Thursday, having been discharged from the service. Elmer just recently returned from service on Okinawa, but left before the typhoon struck that island recently.

- Elmer J. Haberlin, age 78, of 120 Navajo Trail, Lowell, passed away at 9 p.m. Mon., June 11, 1990, at his residence. He is survived by his wife, Marcia Haberlin; two daughters, Patricia Bunkowfst of Lowell, and Kren Haberlin of Winter Springs, Fla.; one son, Charles (Lynne) Haberlin of Lowell; one stepdaughter, Cynthia (David) Herz of Lowell; three stepsons, Millard (Jannon) Clark of Knox, William (Pat) Clark of Edison, N.J., and Daniel Clark of Canyon Country, Calif.; two sisters, Irene Stevenson of Temperance, Mich., and Dorothea Kennedy of Hernando, Fla.; three brothers, Vern (Rosemary) Haberlin of Cedar Lake, Arthur (Alice) Haberlin of Lake Dalecarlia, and Harold (Joyce) Haberlin of Hebron, and 14 grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a wife, Kathryn Ruff Haberlin, and one brother, Donald. Funeral services were conducted at 2 p.m. June 14 at the Lowell Church of Christ with Pastor Charles Hochmuth officaiting. Interment followed at the German Methodist Cemetery in Cedar Lake. Visitation was held June 13 at Sheets Funeral Home, Lowell. Born Mar. 17, 1912, in Lowell, he was the son of Jacob and Hannah (Schilling) Haberlin, He married Kathryn Ruff on Mar. 23, 1936, and she passed away Nov. 23, 1971. On Aug. 5, 1972, in Lowell, he married Marcia Clark. After 35 years as an area millwright, he retired in 1977 from Dupont Co., and then worked for 12 years for Hardings, Inc. in Lowell. A U.S. Navy veteran of World War II, he was a member of Lowell VFW Post 6841 and the Lowell Church of Christ. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.
