Dr. E.W. Elliott, Lowell Summer Resident, Dies
The many area friends of Dr. Elmore W. Elliot, 72, will be sorry to learn that he passed away at his home, 319 Wesley Avenue, Oak Park, Ill. He was brought to Lowell for burial on Wednesday, December 1.Dr. Elliot retired 10 years ago, after practicing dentistry for 48 years in his Chicago Loop office. The Doctor and his wife, Louise, have spent their summers at their farm home east of Lowell thru the past years and are well known here. A son, Elmore Jr., and two grandsons survive, besides his widow.
DR. E.W. ELLIOT, 83, LAID TO REST HERE
Dr. Elmore Westfall Elliot, 83, was laid to rest in the Lowell cemetery last Wednesday, December 1. Although a resident of Oak Park, Ill., the doctor and Mrs. Elliot have been coming to Lowell for approximately 45 years, maintaining a summer home on their farm east of town. The Elliots have a host of friends here where they enjoyed many happy times.Dr. Elliot was born at Valparaiso, July 22, 1871, the son of Dr. Levi Westfall and Mary Painter Elliot. When four years old he moved to Stockton, Calif., with his parents and brother Clarence, now deceased, where his father practiced medicine. When he was twelve the family moved to Marion, Kansas, and there the mother died. The boys and their father returned to Valparaiso, and the doctor continued to practice medicine. Young Elliot attended school in Valparaiso, also college, later going to Chicago, where he was graduated from the Chicago College of Dentistry in 1898. His first office was at Madison and Troop streets. Later he moved to the Loop, sharing his office with Dr. John Buckley, through whom he purchased his farm at Lowell.
Dr. Elliot married Louise B. Munn April 30, 1912, and the couple have one son, Elmore Jr., and two grandchildren, Thomas Elmore and Suzanne Louise, who reside in Wauwatosa, Wis.
The doctor was a charter member of the Chicago Kiwanis club, the Chicago Dental Society, West Suburban Dental Society, Odonographic Society, past secretary of the Dental Protective Society, Delta Sigma Delta, dental fraternity; Chicago Athletic Association and was active in Masonary until his retirement from dental practice in 1946. He was member of the Oak Park First Presbyterian church.
After suffering a heart attack while at their summer home in Douglas, Michigan, early in June, the doctor improved until stricken by a fatal attack which took his life on November 28. Memorial services were held in Oak Park November 30.
