Elton Elwood Hayden (1882-1901)
- Elton Elwood Hayden, son of Sidney and Clara Hayden, was born December 12, 1882, in West Creek township, Lake county, Indiana. There he spent the whole of his life with the exception of a little less than three years when he resided in Illinois. In boyhood he was a pupil in the public schools, from which he was graduated in 1899, afterward spending one year in the High School.
He was taken ill December 11th while in Lowell, and remained in the home of his aunt, Mrs. Petrie, until his death December 21st.
Though he never identified himself with any church, young Mr. Hayden was known as a young man of clean habits and honorable reputation. He was a regular attendant upon the services of the Lake Prairie church. His parents and only brother Walter survive him and a large circle of friends join with them in mourning his untimely death. His funeral, which was largely attended, occurred from the west Creek M.E. church at 10 a.m. Monday, December 23rd; E.D. Smith officiating. The TRIBUNE extends sincere sympathy to the parents and friends in this their hour of great sorrow.
