Emma Gragg Newman (1903-1924)

- Mrs. Emma Neuman, nee Gragg, was born in Chicago Heights, Ill., October 2, 1903, and passed away in Chicago October 26, 1924, at the age of 21 years and 24 days. She was married January 1, 1924, to Carl Neuman.
The deceased was the youngest daughter of Mr, and Mrs. Charles Gragg, who formerly lived in Lowell. She was a young woman who had a large circle of friends who will deeply mourn her death.
She leaves to mourn her, her husband, father and mother, four brothers, John, Judd, Ben and Winford, and one sister, Ida.
Funeral services were held at the Christian church in Lowell on October 29, 1924, being conducted by Rev. Nickerson, pastor of the church. Interment in the Lowell cemetery. Undertaker William Sheets ahd charge of the burial service.
The following unidentified newspaper article, hand-dated Oct. 1924, was in a collection owned by Lowell Town Historian Richard Schmal. Note that this article spells the married name of Emma Gragg as "Newman," while the article above spells it as "Neuman."
DIED IN CHICAGO
Mrs. Emma Newman, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Gragg, formerly of Lowell, died in St. Paul hospital at Chicago, Sunday. She was 21 years of age. The remains were brought to Lowell and funeral services were held at the Christian church yesterday, 2 p.m. Rev. Nickson, pastor of the church, preached the sermon. Interment in Lowell cemetery.
