The following unidentified newspaper article was in a collection owned by Lowell Town Historian Richard Schmal:
    Mrs. Emma (Nichols) King was born on Oct. 13, 1856, in Lake County, Indiana, and has lived most of her life in Indiana.

    On September 24, 1874, she was united in marriage to Marshal King, who preceded her in death, having passed away on March 11, 1937, terminating over 62 years of married life.

    To this union two children were born, one daughter Norah, who passed away at the age of eight years; and one son, Charles, who passed away at the age of seven years.

    Mrs. King passed away on Dec. 19, 1945, in a fire which destroyed her home. She leaves to mourn her passing her nephews and nieces, grand nephews and grand nieces, as well as numerous friends.

    Funeral services were held at the Sheets funeral home at 2 p.m. Saturday. Mrs. Grace McCarty sang two selections. Interment was in Lowell cemetery in charge of Kenneth Sheets.
