Enoch Smiley McCarty

Page 101 of Rev. T.H. Ball's Lake County, Indiana, 1884: An Account of the Semi-Centennial Celebration of Lake County, September 3 and 4, with Historical Papers and Other Interesting Records Prepared for this Volume lists Enoch Smiley McCarty as being baptized Baptist in Cedar Lake in 1850.

The following information comes from page 46 of Reports of the Historical Secretary of the Old Settlers' Association of Lake County, Indiana, from 1896 to 1900:
I found in the possession of the McCarty family of Creston, the old Day Book of Enoch Smiley McCarty of West Point. Its opening date is in July, 1839. It is probably the oldest "day book" now in the couinty. The store was first opened by Dr. Lilley in May, 1837. [As some interesting extracts from this book can be found in "North-Western Indiana," to which the readers of this report have access, they are not inserted here.]
