A copy of the following newspaper article, hand-identified as being from the Feb. 9, 1956, Tribune, was found in a scrapbook owned by Town Historian Richard Schmal:

    Funeral Saturday for Floyd Cable, 56

    Floyd Cable, 56, of Shelby, became ill Tuesday night, and was taken to Gary Methodist hospital, where he died Wednesday morning.

    He was a machinist at the Railway Equipment Company in Hammond. The son of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Cable, Floyd was born October* 10, 1899, at El Paso, Ill. Most of his lifetime was spent in Shelby.

    Surviving with his wife, Grace, is one son, Richard, 9; a sister, four brothers, Ross of Indianapolis, Ralph of Lowell, Walter of Lansing, Ill., and John of Hammond.

    Rev. E.L. Worley, pastor of the Shelby Church of Christ, will officiate at memorial services, which will be conducted at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, Feb. 11, in the Eskridge Funeral Home. Interment will be made in the Lowell cemetery in charge of John Eskridge.

* NOTE -- The 1920 Cedar Creek Twp. Schools Enumeration lists the birthdate of Floyd Cable as Jan. 10, 1899.
