Francis Wendell Thatcher

The following Oct. 23, 1952, Lowell Tribune article appeared in Section 2 on page 2, column 2:
    Serving aboard the destroyer USS O'Hare, operating with the U.S. Naval Forces, Eastern Atlantic and Mediterranean, is Francis Wendell Thatcher, fireman, USN, of Hebron. Wendell is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Thatcher.

    The O'Hare was recently the guest of the Royal London Yacht Club at the Cowes Regatta off the Isle of Wight. The regatta featured Queen Elizabeth's sailboat, "Bluebottle," piloted by the Duke of Edinburgh.

    It was the second time the O'Hare had participated as a guest of the yacht club.

    On November 19th, Wendell will claim Carolyn Purkey, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Athol Purkey, of Lowell, as his bride.

    The formal rites will be read at the First Methodist church at 7:30 in the evening.
