Fred J. "Fritz" Rhein

The following April 5, 1995, Lowell Tribune obituary was found in the Lowell Public Library local history files (LH--Vital Statistics, vol. 5, page 59):
    Fred J. "Fritz" Rhein, age 71, a lifelong resident of Cedar Lake, passed away Sat., Apr. 1, 1995, at his home. He is survived by: his wife, Corinne (nee Slupczynski) Rhein; one daughter, Nancy (Jim) Saulsgiver of Cedar Lake; one son, Patrick (Kristina) Rhein of Hobart; granddaughter Casey Marie Saulsgiver; brother-in-law Casey Slupczynski, and numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral services were conducted at 10 a.m. Apr. 4 from Burdan Funeral Home, Cedar Lake, with Msgr. William Martin, pastor of Holy Name of Jesus Catholic Church, officiating. Burial followed at Holy Name Cemetery in Cedar Lake. Fred Rhein served in the U.S. Army during World War II, and retired as an engineer after 40 years of service with I.B.B. Railroad. He was a member of the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers, Div. No. 682 of Ohio, and a member of VFW Post No. 6841 in Lowell.
