Death of Frederick C. Schmidt
Former Center Township Farm Resident Dies in Hammond
The death of Frederick C. Schmidt, a former well known farmer resident of Center township, occurred last Friday, November 27th, at the home of his daughter Mrs. Louise Miller in Hammond.
The deceased was born October 19, 1857, at Straslund, Germany, coming to this country with his parents and sisters when 15 years of age. They resided for some time at Brunswick, after which they moved to a farm south of Crown Point. Here he lived the greater part of his life. In 1879* he was united in marriage to Caroline Jergens, who preceded him in death, she passing away in 1896. His only sister, Mrs. John Griessel of this city, passed away in 1925.
He is survived by two sons, Charles and Conrad Schmidt and two daughters, Mrs. Charles Miller of Hammond and Mrs. William Fiegle of this city, and fifteen grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon at the Lutheran church in this city, Rev. August Biester officiating. The interment was in Maplewood cemetery.
