Frederick Christian "Fred" Dahl, Sr. (1842-1934)
- Frederick Christian Dahl passed away at his home in Lake Prairie March 11, 1934, after a brief illness which was caused by a fall which he suffered at his home on March 3rd.
Mr. Dahl has been a resident of Lake county for more than sixty years and has occupied his farm at Lake Prairie for nearly fifty years. He was born in Mecklenburg, Germany, on May 6, 1842. In his youth he had considerable military training and was a locksmith by trade, coming to America when still a young man.
He was married to Henrena Avis in 1874. Mrs. Dahl passed away in 1921.
Mr. Dahl was a faithful Bible student and an honorable citizen. He was for many years a member of the German Methodist church.
Eleven children survive him: Mrs. Emma Young of Huntington, Ind.; Mrs. Harriet Hoffman of Joliet, Ill.; Grace M. and Harvey W. of Chicago; Otto J., Hannah H., Esther C., Rena W., Anton F. and Hilda L., of Lake Prairie.
The funeral services were conducted at the home on March 14th with his son-in-law, Rev. Arthur W. Hoffman of Joliet, Ill., officiating, assisted by Rev. T. Adkins of Crown Point and Rev. H. Bonnema of Lake Prairie.
Mr. Hallie Blanchard accompanied by his sister, Beth, furnished the music.
Interment was made in the Lake Prairie cemetery, in charge of Weaver & Son.
In loving faith he was laid away, rejoicing in hopes song which says:
- "I hear it sing, singing sweetly
Softly in an undertone
Singing as if God had taught it
It is better farther on."
