The following November 9, 1994, Lowell Tribune article was found in the Lowell Public Library local history files (LH--Vital Statistics, vol. 5, page 9):
- Frederick John Berg, age 75, of Lowell, passed away Wed., Nov. 2, 1994, at the VNA Hospice Center in Valparaiso. Survivors include: one son, John R. (Tana) Berg of Lowell; five daughters, Cheryl Ann (William) Barker of Vicksburg, Mich., Luana (David) Klaas of Naples, Fla., Ruth (Randy) Deweese of Crown Point, and Annette (Terry) DeVries and Verna (Bob) Carr, both of Lowell; two brothers, Thomas (Dorothy) Berg and Robert (Sue) Berg, both of Cedar Lake; three sisters, Nan Bross of Valparaiso, Verna (Paul) Einick of Galien, Mich., and Mary Burley of New Carlisle; eight grandchildren, and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his wife, Christine, in 1984, and a brother Kent Berg, in 1977. Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Nov. 5 at Eller-Brady Funeral Home, Cedar Lake, with Deacon Tom Kreidler officiating. Interment followed at the German Methodist Cemetery in Cedar Lake. Visitation was held from noon to 9 p.m. Nov. 4 at the funeral home. John Berg was a retired millwright from Inland Steel and a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. He was a member and past commander of American Legion Post No. 261 in Cedar Lake, which held services at 8 p.m. Nov. 4, and a member of VFW Post No. 6841 in Lowell and the Cedar Lake Fish and Game Club. Memorials to the Hospice of the Calumet Area would be appreciated.
