The following April 11, 1968, Lowell Tribune article was found on page 7, column 2:
    Army Private First Class Gary W. Cauley, 19, son of Mr. and Mrs. Charles B. Cauley, Cedar Lake, Ind., was assigned as an asphalt specialist in Company A of the 577th Engineer Battalion near Tuy Hoa, Vietnam, recently.

This September 26, 1968, Lowell Tribune article was found on page 9, column 8:

    Promoted to Spec. 4

    Gary W. Cauley, son of Mrs. Lulla B.Cauley , Cedar Lake, was promoted August 25 to Army specialist four in Vietnam, where he is serving with the 577th Engineer Battalion.

    Spec. Cauley, an asphalt machine operator in the battalion's Company A near Tuy Hoa, entered the Army in February 1966, completed basic training at Ft. Polk, La., and was stationed near Hanau, Germany, before arriving in Vietnam.

    The 19-year-old soldier attend Crown Point High School.
