George N. Kingsbury (1844-1942)
- George Kingsbury of Boise, Idaho, and Charles and Daniel Starr, of Laingsburg, Mich., visited their cousins and sisters, Mrs. Daniel Lynch and Mrs. C.A. Brownell and families several days last week. They will also visit Mrs. W.C. Belman and husband in Hammond. In conversation with Mr. Kingsbury, he informed us that he served in the 9th Indiana during the Civil War and enlisted with 55 other young men from the Southeast Grove neighborhood. Out of the 55 young men, 40 of them were school boys, many of them leaving the school room to enter the war and fight for their country. Out of the entire number Mr. Kingsbury is the only survivor of that brave band of young men who marched out in defense of their flag. He is 86 years of age and has a most remarkable memory and can converse intelligently on all topics of the day.
Randy Saum, great grandson of George N. Kingsbury (Jan. 1, 1844- June 4, 1942), added the following information about him: "I found quite a bit regarding George Kingsbury in my search. He was the department commander for the Idaho delegation to the Grand Army of the Republic encampment in 1934. I have his G.A.R. medal, ribbon, pin, photo of him and his war buddies at the encampment."
