George W. Love (1848-1915)

The following unidentified newspaper article was in a collection owned by Lowell Town Historian Richard Schmal:

    George Love Called

Friends of Mr. George Love were surprised and saddened to learn that early yesterday morning he had passed away. While Mr. Love had suffered a severe attack of pneumonia, he had been gaining slowly for a day or two and his complete recovery was expected. Heart trouble, of which he had been a victim for several years, caused his demise.

George W. Love was one of the pioneer settlers of this township. He was 66 years, 7 months and 20 days old, having been born May 29th, 1848. He was married September 28, 1868, to Harriet Dickey and to them six children were born, two dying in infancy.

Four are living, Melvin, Volney, Mrs. Richard Chamberlain, all of Grant Park, and Mrs. Chas. Rivers of Green Castle, Ind. Four brothers and two sisters are also left: Andrew, of Sherburnville; Frank, of California; James, of Lowell and John of Schneider; Mrs. Eliza Read, of Kokomo and Mrs. Thos. Hayden, of Lowell, Ind. His wife preceded him to a better land two years ago last November.

Mr. Love was a good neighbor and friend; always ready to render assistance. He was of a genial disposition with a kind word and pleasant smile for all. For the past two years he had made his home with his daughter, Mrs. Richard Chamberlain. The burial will take place at Sherburnville tomorrow. After a short service at the home at 1 o'clock, the remains will be taken to the Christian church at Sherburnville, where Rev. Benway, of Momence, will conduct the services at 2:30 p.m. -- Grant Park Anchor, January 22.
