The following October 11, 1951, Lowell Tribune article was found on page 5, column 4:

    BURGESS - ASHTON ENGAGEMENT ANNOUNCED

    Mr. and Mrs. Mitchell Burgess of Cedar Lake are announcing the engagement of their daughter Gloria, to Duane Ashton, son of Mr. and Mrs. Jack Ashton of Lowell.

    Miss Burgess is a senior at Lowell high school. Her fiancé, who is now serving in the U.S. Navy, is stationed at Great Lakes.

    No wedding has been set.
